On this Fathers Day...
by babygirl30 ini have never really spoken on social media about my jw family shunning me.
i didnt even discuss or answer any questions about why they didnt come to my wedding, my birthday parties, why there are never any pics of them with me/us together.
until today.... today i woke up and had this insane desire to be open.

Thank you, babygirl -- feeling your pain and perhaps you're feeling mine.

Conditioned responses: Have you been conditioned to feel judged, or guilt etc that has spilled over into your exjw life?
by Diogenesister inthis youtuber, an exjw and psychologist, may be familiar to some of the old guard.. i'm posting for newer members really.
yet still, despite being out some time, it was a shock for me to realise that some of the crippling guilt i have felt over so much of my life, even long after being awake, was due to the dominant "conditioned response" i felt as a believer - guilt.. guilt that i could never do enough.
guilt that i was responsible for the life of anyone i didn't preach to...anyone i may have stumbled, anything i did that wasn't caring for the needs of others.. even my job i choose to fit in with trying to expunge the guilt i felt at not meeting the needs of others.

And thank you again, Diogenesister, for your reply.
I was greatly influenced by the anointed. Mom studied with an anointed sister, Lillian Groebel, in the early '50s. They were in our local congregations and seemed, for whatever reason, to take to me and my spiritual education.
Well, when I got to Bethel, the place was full of them. One dear little sister in subscriptions, Sister Kraeker, held up a yellow slip (Awake!) and told me that this little piece of paper represented someone's life . . .
Can you see the effect that had on me?!?!?!?

Thank you, Diogenesister, for this thread. I'm sorry for the distress caused you and others here as well.
The application of Old Testament scripture to our supposed obligation towards Jehovah was over the top. You must warn the wicked or die with them. You and other posters said it all. I can only add that when the WT/Awake! subscriptions were the offer of the month, I couldn't concentrate fully on work because I was in a turmoil over offering all my fellow employees the double sub.
Their lives depended on my getting the magazines into their hands.

Leaving My Religion
by compound complex ina cool sense of tranquility calms my troubled spirit.. i emerge slowly from deeply entrenched nightmares and proceed into gentle reverie, into quiet wakefulness.
youthful ideals, embodied in vaporous form on the street below, are a black reminiscence.
they are certain to return as a want, an untold want, having neither name nor substance but providing a niggling dig that skewers my soul.
